How I Survived the 2015 MTV Movie Awards

The work of an enthusiastic, Hollywood-loving seat filler is never quite done! I recounted my star-studded experience at the iHeartRadio Music Awards 2015 just two weeks ago… I never could have hoped to attend another incredible show so soon after the last, but here I was at the 2015 MTV Movie Awards! I struggled to accept that I was even in the same room as the ladies of Pitch Perfect and the godly men of the Avengers cast, among others…

But I’ll tell you how I survived.

No New Friends… Except Shana!

Seat-filling is a vicious competition to look good for the cameras, get seated next to your faves and keep your calm when people like Charli XCX and Tinashe sit down next to you! Making at least one friend during your seat-filling adventure is essential – friends have bobby pins, a fresh pair of star-spotting eyes and, most importantly, honest critiques of the current state of your hair/makeup!  I met Shana at the iHeartRadio Music Awards; she did all of the above for me and more! We got separated this time (tears), but we both met beautiful new people!

Stay Chill

Tonight, I was surrounded by some of the hottest men and women in cinema. This show is really about them and needs to look good for the audiences at home. That means professionalism at all times – no room for screaming or fangirling (outwardly at least). Seated behind Rebel & Brittany Snow, I tried to hold that Hollywood smirk for the cameras. With Sofia Vergara, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello and Chris Hemsworth all a stone’s throw away tonight, I didn’t know who to focus on! It’s like, “Yup. The Rock is in front of me. Kevin Hart’s kids are adorable. Cool. Next?”

Don’t be Afraid to Enjoy Yourself!

That doesn’t mean you can’t have a little fun! I waved a hearty hello to Todrick Hall (who was accompanied by an enthusiastic, colorful entourage) before dancing along to Fall Out Boy x Fetty Wap performing “Trap Queen”! Something like that might never happen again! I ventured to tell Nicole Byer of Girl Code that she is ‘The Woman’ and then chatted with MTV Host Zuri Hall and her male model boyfriend, Mettin Copier, after the show to share how inspirational their relationship is to me! They were incredibly laid back and glad that I approached them!

Disclaimer: Never do this before/during a taping, or between takes. Introductions are always at your own discretion and risk; you typically shouldn’t talk to talent. These two weren’t presenting/performing, so I figured it would fly!

Pack that Purse (or those Pockets)

A quick list of some good things to have in your corner: your entrance ticket, ID, water, bobby pins, hair ties, backup lipstick/powder, compact mirror. Read carefully: Don’t get caught with a cell phone. ‘Nuff said.

Did Any of that Really Happen?

I watched the Awards back twice and felt incredibly grateful to be a part of the show. I’ll never forget it and I’d definitely do it again!

Mwah,
