InstaRecap of my thoughts from the Black Community Summit 2018 below!

Day 1 of the Facebook #BlackCommunitySummit at the headquarters of the largest reaching social network, and my employer. I feel SO seen. During an efficacy session, I considered the value of being seen/heard vs. being respected. We all want both. But what do we really need to novate and progress? Van Jones @vanjones68 is both seen and respected – not everywhere he works, but in many environments. He told us that he will never become his enemy, and that he spent SO much TIME and ENERGY sharing what he was AGAINST that he had forgotten to give energy to what he was FOR. My enemies are systemic racism, sexism, xenophobia, stereotypes. Today I remembered that I cannot be as hateful and angry as those entities if I want to play a sustainable game. I want young girls to have the same experience I did upon entering this conference – they log onto Instagram and there is NO QUESTION that they belong. I am working to make them feel seen.
