Presenting at the East Bay Innovation Awards

I recently presented the Legacy Awards at the 2024 East Bay Innovation Awards. It was an evening filled with inspiration, and a touch of nostalgia as I had the honor of presenting the Legacy Award to the CCTA alongside none other than District Supervisor Candace Andersen, someone I’ve known since my high school days. And I’m so proud of my mom for hosting with the EDA – the work she puts into the community is palpable!

For those unfamiliar, the East Bay Innovation Awards are a beacon of celebration for the vibrant entrepreneurial spirit thriving in our region. Now in its 11th year, this event organized by the East Bay EDA serves as a testament to the unwavering commitment to promote and market the assets of our community, fostering an environment ripe for innovation and business growth.

Shoes – Double Delight Silver Sparkle Coil Wrap Flat Sandal

Standing on that stage, surrounded by the brightest minds and most passionate entrepreneurs, I couldn’t help but reflect on the journey that brought me here. And having Candace Andersen by my side, someone who has known me since high school, added an extra layer of significance to the moment, and made me feel hella grown up! *cue tears*

As we presented the Legacy Award, honoring those whose contributions have left an indelible mark on our community, it felt like a full-circle moment. When I grew up in the Bay Area as a theatre student, I always dreamed of getting on a magical bus, plain, train or flying car out of here – to Hollywood, where I eventually ended up. I didn’t have the television appearances and credits, or airline miles I now have – but what I did have was a 511 Contra Costa bus pass to help me get home from school for free. I had BART tickets to get me to my first few auditions in SF, and work at Instagram in the city. I had safe places to ride and sing and dream of the entertainer I’d someday become, the one who has voiced in games, feature film, audiobooks, television and podcasts, thanks to the Contra Costa Transportation Authority.

The Legacy Award recipient’s accomplishments served as a reminder of the power of perseverance, collaboration, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.

Moreover, being part of an event like the East Bay Innovation Awards reaffirms my belief in the transformative power of community and my decision to live and work mostly in the Bay Area. It’s through events like these that we come together, share ideas, celebrate successes, and uplift each other to new heights.

Thanks to my ghostwriter Stephen Baiter, my mom Patience and the EDA team for having me.

Yee!
